Flamengo join Tottenham and Besiktas in race for Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan - report

Flamengo are latest club to show an interest in Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan, according to reports from Globoesporte.

The Uruguayan striker is believed to be close to a summer exit from La Liga, despite having another two years left on his current contract at the Vicente Calderon.

Tottenham have been linked with the player throughout the season, while reports from Turkey last week stated that the 32-year-old had agreed to join Besiktas.

With the former Manchester United striker in high demand, Atletico's sporting director, Jesus Garcia Pitarch, has spoken about the situation.

"We will not talk about his [Diego Forlan] departure until the end of the Spanish championship," Pitarch told Radio Tupi.

Forlan has endured a difficult time of late and is thought to have fallen out with coach Quique Sanchez Flores, who will leave the Spanish club in the summer.
W
hen quizzed about their relationship, Pitarch refused to comment on the dispute.

"You should ask the player about it, not the club. There is a contract in force so if he wants to leave then it is his problem."
